Plan by season

When to visit Gaya & Bodhgaya

Weather across the Gaya–Bodhgaya–Rajgir–Nalanda–Varanasi corridor follows the North-Indian monsoon cycle. October to March is the most comfortable window for pilgrimage circuits. Pitru Paksha (September) is the most spiritually significant period for pind daan.

Temperature and rain ranges are indicative; exact conditions vary and are reconfirmed before your travel dates.

Recommended

Peak season

Oct – Mar

Cool, dry weather across Gaya, Bodhgaya, Rajgir and Nalanda. Morning temperatures between 10–22 °C are comfortable for temple visits and pind daan on the ghats. Varanasi and Deoghar are also pleasant.

10–28 °C

Low

Light

Summer

Apr – Jun

Hot across the plains — daytime temperatures in Gaya and Patna can exceed 40 °C. Rajgir and Nalanda are slightly cooler in the hills but still warm. Bodhgaya temple visits are best done at dawn. Not ideal for senior travellers.

30–44 °C

Very low

Hot winds

Monsoon

Jul – Sep

Heavy rain in Bihar and eastern UP. The Phalgu river rises, roads to Rajgir can be slow, and some outdoor rituals may shift timing. Pitru Paksha (usually mid-Sep) falls here — significant for pind daan, but logistics need careful handling.

Pitru Paksha

Sep – Oct

The 16-day period when pind daan at Gaya is considered most auspicious. Falls in the monsoon-to-autumn transition. Weather is humid but improving; we plan early-morning ghats and covered rest areas. Advance booking is essential.

Before you book

Questions, answered plainly

The five things families ask us most about Gaya, Bodhgaya and the wider circuit.

What is the best time to visit Gaya and Bodhgaya for pind daan?

Pitru Paksha, usually in September–October, is the most significant period for pind daan at Gaya, but the rite is performed throughout the year and amavasya dates each month are also observed. Weather is most comfortable from October to March, when mornings on the Phalgu ghats are cooler and travel across Bodhgaya, Rajgir and Nalanda is easier for senior travellers.

Do you arrange the pandit for pind daan, or should we bring our own?

We arrange locally coordinated priests as part of the package and include the ritual materials. If your family prefers to bring or nominate a specific pandit, our concierge coordinates with them on the ghats and handles the sequencing, so you only focus on the rite itself.

How do we reach Gaya and Bodhgaya?

Gaya junction is well connected by rail from Patna, Varanasi, Delhi and Kolkata, and Gaya (GAYA) airport has limited scheduled flights. Bodhgaya is about 15 kilometres from Gaya town. We arrange pickups from Gaya junction, the airport and Patna, and can also plan a road circuit from Varanasi or Patna if you prefer not to change trains.

Are the package prices shown on the page final?

No. The price bands are indicative, per person on twin-sharing, and meant to help you compare circuits. The final quote depends on your travel dates, hotel category, group size and the rail or air fares available at booking. Your concierge shares a written quote before any payment is made.

What is your cancellation and refund policy?

Cancellation, amendment, no-show and refund terms are shared in writing before payment. The applicable amount depends on the confirmed suppliers and timing, so no universal refund percentage is promised on the website.
